Kassou Seydou

Born in 1971 in Ziguinchor, Senegal.

Lives and works in Keur Massar, Senegal.

Kassou Seydou’s painting is a writing of the world, looking for harmony. Each one of his artworks is a mysterious tale where still-faced people mingle, an allegory where series of symbols from various cultures, temporalities and geographies coexist.

These symbols complete one another and constitute the structural elements of the artist’s syntax. Like the foundations of this visual language, the graphic lines of a landscape cover the background of the paintings. Their curvilinear motives take us to the borders of hypnosis.

This encrypted vision reunites elements from the complexity of contemporary Senegal, through the representation of sometimes heavy, sometimes playful scenes, in a reflection on society, urbanity, religions, exile, relations with the rest of the world or the coexistence between Man and Nature, essential factor for the creation of a harmony between beings, both spiritual and physical.
