Born in 1987 in Sidi Bougou – Senegal
Lives and works in Dakar, Senegal
Aliou Diack left his hometown for Dakar at age 10 and pursue thereafter his studies, in the École National des Arts. While living in his village, he would cross the forest every day to go to school. Upon his arrival in Dakar, he felt nostalgic of the nature and freedom which nurtured his childhood and started drawing about Mother Nature to recreate his universe, filled with neo-naturalist motifs.
While crossing the forest, he could hear birds and animals but his fear restrained him from looking at them. That is why, in his work, animal figures are not totally recognizable. He uses natural pigments provided by villagers and his own natural powders to express his deep connections with nature.
